Julianne Blackbird is Mohawk Nation, Turtle Clan, and Ojibwe Tribe from Six Nations of The Grand River Territory. Julianne has studied movement in dance since 2005. She has created a beautiful path to generational healing through work she has put in. Throughout her childhood she competed in numerous dance competitions, conventions, and auditions all around the world. She trained in all genres including Ballet, Pointe, Contemporary, Hip Hop, Jazz, Lyrical, and Tap. She has worked professionally in the performing arts industry since 2017. Julianne had the great opportunity to Tour and share meaningful shows such as The Mush Hole with Kaha:wi Dance Theatre, Indigenous Visions & Voices with Alejandro Ronceria, and The Gift with Danza Corpus Canada Dance Theatre, just to name a few.
She has recently been training and sharing her teachings with Jingle Dress Dance. She was able to Teach a Jingle Dress Dancing segment for CBC Kids this year.
Her passion for performance sparked an interest in Fashion and modelling! She had the opportunity to model for a campaign for North American Indigenous Games in 2017. Which happily started a passion. The photoshoot was very meaningful to her as she got to wear her Six Nations Girls Field Lacrosse Gear. She now has experience modelling for Photoshoots, Runways, Walk through experiences, and Dance campaigns. Julianne’s most recent Runway was for the designer Himikalas Pamela Baker: Indigenous Fashion Show at The Harmony Arts Festival in West Vancouver.
