ARCTIC LUXE was founded by Bobby Brower in 2010. It is an indigenous-owned, women-led, Alaska Native clothing and accessory brand based in Anchorage, Alaska.
Bobby Brower is Inupiaq and is an enrolled member of the Native Village of Barrow tribe in Utqiagvik, Alaska. She lives and works from home in Anchorage. She specializes in one-of-a-kind pieces that are hand-made by the artist herself, while also designing ready to wear fashions.
While growing up in Utqiagvik she learned to skin sew at the age of 13 in her Inupiaq language class. She was also raised in a family that subsistence hunted year round and was surrounded by traditional skin sewers.
After high school, Bobby had her first child and her aunt Florence Brower convinced her to get into skin sewing once again. This time for the traditional baby contest that is held every 4th of July. Over the years, Bobby advanced her skills in sewing and started her sewing business in 2010.
Since 2010, Bobby has been a professional artist completely devoted to her art. Exhibiting her work in fashion shows in Alaska, New Mexico, Canada, and New York. She also teaches sewing classes over zoom and in person. She promotes her work because she wants to inspire the youth to keep their traditions and culture alive for generations to come.
